I feel very anxious these days. To manage that, it seems to me like a good idea to remember at least one moment when I was happy, and I want to share it with you. Today it’s about a storm in Sinai.
So, it was February, I was in Sinai, yes, in THE Sinai, away from the lockdown and loneliness. I had only been here for a few days, enjoying moments of peace, and when I heard thunder one night, I went outside the hotel. The hotel was out of town, right at the sea, and provided a great view of the vast sea.
The sky was flashing, the thunder was roaring over the open sea, and nothing was stopping it. It seemed to me that the sea and the mountain were even amplifying its sound, or at least they provided a dignified stage for this wonderful show of nature, which occurs here about once a year. It reminded me of my childhood and the fascination I experienced hearing stories about Sinai. Lightning kept crossing the sky and the thick darkness, illuminating the mythical mountain, the air was damp and heavy, and you could smell electricity in it. I looked at the sea and the sky for a quite some time, felt the wind getting stronger, and when raindrops were too many, I turned around to get back to my room. The security service guy also ran to hide, and as I passed the front desk and entered the inner open area of the hotel, a heavy downpour started. It was clear to me that I would get soaking wet anyway, so I stopped at the beginning of a very long and wide garden with palm trees, a swimming pool, on the sides 1-storey hotel buildings.
The wind was blowing, the rain was running down my clothes, stroking my skin, it was refreshing and it felt like it was washing away the feelings of sadness. The air smelled of basil and oregano that were lining the sidewalk, and I felt silly as I was standing there just getting wet, and it was bringing me so much joy! I spinned around, laughing like people in those commercials, listening to the storm, and once again felt the drops fall on my face, shoulders, hair. It was a very pleasant feeling. Despite the storm, I was feeling safe, a little silly, free, and happy.
And then I just went to my room, hung my clothes to dry and went to bed J
