And so I did.
I started with switching (..easy chief ..) between West Wing on Bravo and Die Hard 2 on channel 41. I gave each 5 minutes in-between commercial breaks and West Wing slowly won over my attention. Those guys in there surely know how to talk. And then I thought: why not to watch the real thing? And that was it – channel 48 – the real deal – C-SPAN.
They had a fabulous woman there talking about Bush immigration policy proposal. I never EVER heard somebody intelligibly and with such an ease and reasonable arguments backing any of Bush’s proposals. I must say though that his proposition on legalization of illegal immigrants (gastarbaiter program) is one of very very very few which late at night make some kind of sense.
I was enchanted, tranquilized by her professionalism and the use of facts, words and phrases which they teach somewhere at Yale - like “devil is in a detail”, "opening the gates of possibility", "increasingly bifurkated high end - low end economy"or "our central character as a law obeying people" or "earning their way in and out of the shadows" and some which they don't - like "we don't bring up our children to be busboys or gardeners any more" or "there is no place for compassion in out immigration policy".
I was hooked, she got me. And so I watched and watched until they invited everybody to continue discussion in a reception following immediately a tak som si nechal zajst' chute a siel k moru.
