Organ - Nekrofiilis,LP,1982 ,Finland
Organ, maybe the pivotal Finnish synth act, was the answer of PokoRecords and Mikko Saarela to the futu (as the "futurist" synth pop wascalled in Finland) craze. Organ was the outcome of the creative mindsof Saarela (formerly of the popular Finnish punk band Eppu Normaali)and the synthetic Argon duo -- who had already released one album, Konekertoo -- joined together. Organ's most famous song was 'Kärpästenjuhla' ("The Feast of Flies") with its anti-war theme, mocking theclichés of some traditional Finnish patriotic hymns -- Mikko Saarela'switty, humorous lyrics held some social concern in them, dealing withthe rights of test animals, helping the third world countries, bureaucracy and so on, in the best punk tradition. They released thisalbum, Nekrofiilis (POKO PÄLP 33, 1982), and some singles; 'Kundimeikkaa' ("A Guy Makes Up") being the best known of them. From: http://www.phinnweb.org/early/synth/organ/ Great synth/proto electro from Finland with teutonic beats and the ice cold feeling ,that characterised this period. Excellent! http://mutant-sounds.blogspot.com/2007/10/organ-nekrofiilislp1982-finland.html

DJ Olive - Sleep
room40 2006
DJOlive's seminal sleep session was originally recorded and compiled inlate 2001 and circulated amongst friends and on an Australian tour as aCDr. The disc shares the same sentiments as Buoyand exposes DJ Olive's talents at crafting gently shifting spatialambience. Rich textures and deep tone are carefully intermixed andcombined with Olive's unique turntable style. The results are quitesimply spellbinding - epic, with a markedly personal sensibility.
Sleep is part two of a trilogy of ambient records for ROOM40.
Excellent !!!

KEMIALLISET YSTAVAT-NUU HA NI HAKA, 3" CDR, 2003, FINLAND
Foranyone with even a tangential awareness of current Finish undergroundsounds, Kemialliset Ystavat's delirious sonic formulations will requirelittle explanation. Their drugged and bleary moire-patterned universeof detuned psychedelic stumble being in many respects the formativegesture from whence sprang a thousand current lesser lights dotting thecontempo freak folk landscape. Nuu Ha Ni Haka (released as part of theJeweled Antler Library of 3" CDR's) was the first recording to followtheir landmark Kellari Juniversumi, an album that brought to fruitionthe full depth of their cockeyed spellcasting. A wee bit lessfine-tuned in it's approach, it nevertheless is deeply suffused withthat sense of "otherness" that so many of their freak folk brethrenaspire to but usually fall short of.

Portion Control - Dining On The Fresh (tape, In Phaze, 1981), Surface And Be Seen (12", In Phaze, 1982) - no flexi...!
Moreearly Portion Control! What a great synth pop and what a pity not moreof it is officially re-released. 'Dining On The Fresh' is a reallyshort cassette, only 10 minutes. It came with a flexi, but that one isbumped here, so I couldn't record it. I however scanned all theinserts, except the misplaced button, and the balloon which I neverheard. 'Surface And Be Seen' was their first outing on vinyl and isstill great too. Let me know if anyone has the flexi as a MP3, as Imore than happy to replace this upload with a more complete version(433rpm@gmail.com).

MERZBOW - Hybrid Noisebloom
MasamiAkita AKA Merzbow is quite easily the most recognized name in theworldwide noise scene. Hundreds of albums bear his name, and any goodbroken home like mine features a wide assortment of hisexpertly-sculpted blasts of feedback. This 1997 release was a surpriseto me, as I picked it up for a whole $4 in a cut-out bin at my faverecord store a few weeks back-- and with a discography as extensive asAkita's, it's easy to lose track... so I had no idea what this one wasabout. Amazingly, it's all trilling angelic voices andexotic/little-used ethnic instruments played sans amplifier.

Vagina Dentata Organ - Cold Meat
VaginaDentata Organ or VDO is the creation of Jordi Valls, who worked closewith Psychic TV and Monte Gazazza. Jordi about Clod Meat : We dedicatedthis LP to the two biggest Sex-symbols of the 20Th. Century: MarylinMonroe and Elvis Presley. It's also a picture-disc. On side :1, you seethe dead body of Marylin, and on side :2, the body of Elvis. What youhear is the orgasmic sounds of different couples having sex. We haveour sense of humour, you know? It's necrophilia at it's best. Thisrecord was sold out in a matter of days. For more info about VDO go herefor an interview. If you want more VDO go over to TBM' s excellentBecause God Told Me To Do It blog for Music For The Hashishins and ThePerpignan Killings here . Cold Meat was released as a pic.disc on WSNS (WNSNS 004) in 1986.

Kuupuu - Unilintu
Label: Dekorder
Released: 2007
Style: Experimental, Free Folk
Boomkat
'Yokehra'from Finnish free-folk Goddess Kuupuu (aka Jonna Karanka) was one of myfavourite releases of last year, so I have been very patiently awaitingthis followup album! Both of the LPs are made up from her long sold-outCDR EPs and effortlessly show how insanely gifted a musician andinnovator she is - blending the out-there sound of Islaja with thecrumbling electrical pscyh sounds of Kemialliset Ystavat. Occasionallymoving towards the world of pulsating synth experimentalism ('Linnut')and then trip-toeing into something more delicate and folk based ('IltaSuree') this is the reason why we all got so doe-eyed about the worldof Finnish forest folk in the first place. Those tape-recorded detunedguitars, that alien language we are so desperate to get to hear and thecrumbling pots 'n pans percussion that endears us so much to thesehome-made sounds. Dekorder is one of those labels that we have to holddear - by re-issuing these cdrs and treating them so carefully and solovingly he is doing the world a service. Hugely recommended for anyfree folkies desperate for a fix... http://deletedscenesforgottendreams.blogspot.com/2007/10/kuupuu-unilintu.html DRONE MUSIC VIDEA! - bonus
