Beforeanyone had heard of the Chemical Brothers, they put together this 2hour Essential Mix for Radio 1. In fact, this was one of the first setsever from the "Chemical Brothers" as they had just changed their namefrom "Dust Brothers." A few months later, their debut Exit Planet Dust became one of the most successful electronica albums of the mid-90s.

Musically,this session demonstrates some of the "big beat" characteristics heardlater in the Chemical Brothers' studio albums. However, the mix alsoexplores tracks from hip hop, funk, pop, etc. that you wouldn't expectto hear from these guys.

len pre tvrdych hosanov, stoji za vypocutie

co sa mojho nazoru tyka len si vzdy spomeniem ako mi kamarat rozpraval o ich koncerte kdesi v nemecku ako v ramci festivalu vystupovali aj borbetomagus a po 15 minutach hrania bolo v sale z povodnych cca 200 ludi asi 5 :)

Contrary to what my family thinks I am not big on noise.Fortunately (or not) my first encounter with this genre occurred when Icame across Masayuki Takayanagi and Kaoru Abe album Kaitai Teki Kohkan.As far as noise is concerned it was all downhill from then on and aftera while I gave up further research. Consequently I remain oblivious tosome of the main players in that field, but borbeto is another matter.This here is a slight (repeat “slight”) departure from the norm as thethreesome’s customary intensity is somewhat diluted by theirillustrious visitors’ presence on the recording session. Well worth thelisten though.

Diamanda Galás with Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones? What hath God wrought?
This is probably the closest thing to a rock album from this dark diva.Jones’ bass playing compliments Galás’ voice quite well. From thepulsing Do You Take this Man? to the menacing rape revenge of The Sporting Life. It’s all dovetailed by the haunting Skotoseme and Hex.

Truly an odd pairing, but rewarding nonetheless.

Hereis an excellent collection of essential sound art from Akio Suzuki.Obviously the recording quality varies due to the date of recording andthe nature of his instruments. I was fortunate to see a beautifulexhibition of his in Paris a few years back. He is an artist whom, aseach day passes, I hear his influence more and more.
