They look for inspiration in history and literature and topics such as life, love and war. At the same time, we will learn what is difficult during the recording of songs and videos.
To begin with - how did the idea of starting a band playing folk rock and medieval folk rock come about?
I did this style of music before for some years with my other Band Feuerschwanz. I always loved Lord of the Rings Movies and Books, Fantasy, Medieval Stuff and also bands like In Extremo. My family always supported music when i was a kid, so i had to express myself through tthe style of music that i loved.
Where do you get inspiration for creating songs and (at least part of) the videos associated with them?
We are inspired by history and literature. You can find those big stories about everything that makes us human thorughout history: Life & death, love & war, it's always the same things that move us.
Which detail or details are the most difficult during the creation of your songs? Or videos? Whether by getting ideas, while recording video clips or any other detail or details.
It's hard to keep the overall idea in mind while focusing on tiny details. In audio production, you can waste hours and days recording stuff that nobody will ever hear in the end. Same with videos: For example, you record a video abroad and you have to fly to the location. There are endless things to think of, like props, costumes, booking the right tickets, rental cars, etc... The weather can change things very quickly as well, so you have to stay focused on the story you want to tell while being able to adapt.
The videos regularly feature various interesting locations in the form of castles, their surroundings, forests, meadows or the sea. According to what details or points of interest do you choose specific locations?
We always want to create an athmosphere of adventure and it helps a lot when you change the landscapes from sea to mountains to castles, etc. We try to see what fits the video and then we start planning and checking what is available, where is the weather likely to be ok, etc.
Which of these places is your favorite? And for what reason?
I always love being at the ocean.
Your costumes and masks are inspired by musketeers and medieval clothing. How was their selection (thematically, pattern-wise, details...) and their production?
Our stage outfits are partially handcrafted by my wife Svenja, partially bought and combined carefully. We try to create a look which works for both 17th century adventure movie and Rock stages.
The name of your band is d'Artagnan associated with the work of the Three Musketeers. What attracted you to this name? And for what reasons?
He's just the most famous one and it sounded really cool.
In the band, you call your style of music Musketier-Rock. How did you arrive at or develop this musical style name?
We actually prefer to call it folk rock, but there was one day we visited a costume shop to try out different styles of clothing. The owner asked us "What kind of music do you play?" and Time said spontanieously: "Musketeer-Rock!" it kind of stuck to this day.
Are there any funny, funny and cute incidents from recording videos? Can you share some with the readers, please?
On our last videoshoot we had Rafa Blas from Mägo de Oz as a featuring guest. He doesn't speak english and i don't speak spanish, so we commuicated all day with our phones and google translator. It was awkward, cool and wholesome at the same time, we really liked each other but could'nt communicate. After picking him up at the airport i offered him a can of beer and from that moment on it worked!
Many listeners perceive you positively and like to listen to you. What is your view on this detail?
That's awesome! If people like our music, we did our job right.
Which of your albums or songs is your favorite? Why?
Can't decide. I love the new record. Mosqueteros is my favourite at the moment - i love when songs work really good while being super simple.
Are you working on a new album? If so, what will it be about?
We just releases our Album a few days ago. But yes.
Also, are there any long term plans for the future along with the albums? For example, movies or movies with your music, a book, ...
No idea.
Is there anything you want to say to the readers?
Thanks for your time!
