Well the answer is simple. KSU’s International office consistsof 2 people: Damian Kovac (international officer-MBA qualifying) and PatriciaBorg (international coordinator-1 st Year LL.D). Both of us are fulltime students like you. We do our best to represent all our members (i.e. allthe students following a course at the University of Malta)on 2 levels within the following structures.
¨ National Level we are members of KNZ’sinternational committee
¨ International Level KSU is member of ESIB TheNational Unions of Students in Europe.
On the university level our initiatives and responsibilitiesare two-fold, concerning, on the one hand, local students, and on the other, international students.
A far as international students are concerned we understandthat studying in a different environment to one in which they are normallyaccustomed can be quite daunting, and for this reason we aim to make theirtransition into the Maltese academic and social life as smooth as possible.Together with University’s International Office, we coordinate theirorientation days at the beginning of the academic year and at the beginning ofevery semester respectively.
As far as localstudents are concerned one of our main aims is to keep you informed and updatedin all areas of an international dimension that concern you. We promote:scholarships that are available to you; exchange programs such as Erasmus amongothers. We aim to inform you of the opportunities available to you abroad bymeans of the International Library, and through the 1 World Week.
Erasmus is a popularprogram that helps students from all over the EU to go on an academic exchangeto experience a different cultures & different ways of living. This program will enrich your academic experience;help you become more independent and self-confident. List of all the highereducation institutions (HEI) that one can go to through this program are listedon the Socrates web site. It is interesting to note that the language barrier(if you consider going to study in a country such a France for example) is notas you might have thought at the beginning, there are students from thesecountries who on exchange at our University, they do speak English. So don’tworry. If you need any travel advice in getting to your final destination NSTSis there to help you.
On the international level we are members of ESIB aspreviously mentioned. We are currently chairing the education working group. Our main task in this respect was to delve into the formal, non-formal andinformal education. What our new aims will be depend on the coming boardmeeting (49) in Reims, France.
