Sonet Lesné narcisy vznikol počas autorovho pobytu v Northamptonskom ústave pre choromyseľných a pri jeho návštevách lesa Epping Forest, a teda niekedy v polovici obdobia rokov 1837-1864.

Z dubových mŕtvych listov narcisy z najhrubších pňov už kvitnú opäť raz, nahusto vždy tam trsy rástli si, černica pnie sa, vres sa zelená. Plačúce kvietky, perly v rose rán, bútľavé drevo a tiež húštiny osídli biela, žltá kvetena, jak krásne vzlyká spoza dreviny. Tenká byľ nesie lístky a s nimi plačúca rosa visí, zronená.
